The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U13A vs  Priory School
On: Tuesday, 08 Oct 2019
Venue: Away

After an early 7:30 meet time and lengthy journey south of Birmingham, the boys looked sharp and ready and raring to go as we faced Priory School at Birmingham City FC Training Complex. Isaac O continued his rich vein of scoring form with a well executed free kick from the left hand side of the box to give MGS an early lead. Despite Priory seemingly controlling the game and looking dangerous through their tricky number 11 on the left hand side, MGS bundled home another through target man Dan B. MGS however were struggling to keep possession as Priory continued to press and exploit the space in midfield. The left winger, once again proving a tricky customer with his speed and close control continued to cause havoc on the right hand side of the MGS defence with Jaydan K eventually bringing him down inside the box. The resulting penalty crashed against the bar and into the next as Priory had their much deserved lifeline before HT. The second half did not begin well for MGS as once again the speed and trickery of the Priory attack caused havoc in the box. Priory smashed home an equalizer and quickly followed this up with what could well have been a match winner. Year 7 Leon KQ, however, had other ideas as he struck home with a long range effort from well outside the box. Leon was shifted into the middle of the park to sure up a tiring midfield and not only his goal but also his tenacity for a tackle, maturity and composure in possession gave MGS more control in midfield as we began to take a foothold in the game at 3-3. Isaac O smartly finished with the inside of his right foot into the corner to restore the lead and moments later it was Leon KQ who won the ball in midfield and played a sublime defence splitting pass onto the run of Isaac O who calmly slotted home to bag his hat trick and secure a marvellous MGS comeback to win the game 5-3 and progress into round 3.
