Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 2nd XV vs  Wirral Grammar School for Boys
On: Saturday, 09 Nov 2019
Venue: at Home

Like Peter Parker and Spiderman, Clark Kent and Superman, Bruce Banner and The Incredible Hulk, Ger Morris and Talisman taylor had never before been seen at the same venue (training or match) at any point this year. Until today. With both an U16s and a 2nd team fixture at home against Wirral, both were called into service by Swindells.

The 2nd team had a strong squad on paper bolstered by Hart and Campbell in the front row due to injuries to Primrose and The Bulldozer to Drama.

With a penalty in front of the sticks in the first 5 minutes, George Berry surprised anyone normally associated with 2nd team rugby, opted for the kick, and slotted it. 3 - 0 to MGS.

Wirral came back with an unconverted try, swiftly followed by one of own. Wirral scored again just before half time to make it 8 - 10 at the break.

Wirral looked strong in the second half with their 1st XV's fullback's doppelganger coming on, scoring 2 tries and converting them both.

The game was within reach with 10 minutes to go and we were 7 points down chasing a draw.

Wirral finished worthy 29 - 15 winners and their defence proved too difficult to break down.

Will Richardson had a good game at 10, Ryan Hart was a nuisance at the breakdown and Woodward made some good carries. Try saving work from Hooker stopped the 12 scoring with a body slide on our own line. Ollie Johnson was outstanding both in attack and defence and may have played a little too well under the watchful eyes of the 1st team coaches...........Will we see him again?
