Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 1st XI vs  The King's School, Chester
On: Saturday, 12 Oct 2019
Venue: at Home

MGS started the game against Kings sharply, controlling possession and dominating the game. After a corner was whipped in, a thumping header from Bundred put MGS 1-0 up. The game continued in the same manner and another corner led to a spill from the keeper and Slater put it into an open net, a display of excellent attacking positioning.
The second half started 2-0 to MGS. It seemed we had let our first half performance get to us, as we conceded two goals in quick succession. At 2-2 however we kicked back into gear. A finessed ball through from Slater left Chapman one on one with the keeper. Perfectly unselfish play from Chapman as he squared it to Meir, who finished superbly in the top corner.
MGS dominated again, and soon after a lovely run from Davies on the edge of the box finished with a square ball to Smyth, who struck it first time with the outside of the boot right into the top corner. Absolutely exceptional play.
Smyth continued this excellence with a naughty ball through to Chapman, which caused the pursuing defender to concede a penalty as he lunged for the ball. At 4-2 up, the Owls decided to let Chapman go for his goal after a mesmerising performance. Chapman put the penalty bottom left but executed it with little power, leaving the keeper a slightly less than hard job at saving the penalty.
The game ended 4-2 with MGS taking yet another victim.
