MGS vs St Bedes (6-4) 5th October 2019

On Saturday 5th October 2019 MGS travelled away for our local derby fixture versus St Bede’s. MGS got off to a great start. In the first couple of minutes Hudson D scored an absolute banger outside the box into the top left corner of the net. Straight after, MGS won the ball back and took a shot and won a corner. The ball was lofted into the box by Lucas and the ball pinged scrappily about the box until MGS eventually scored via an O.G. MGS were winning 2-0 and in control of the game, however, 10 minutes before half time lost possession of the ball inside their own half. From this, St Bede’s went straight on the counter attack and scored. Almost immediately after, St Bede’s counter attacked again making it 2-2 at half time.

The second half began much like the first with MGS getting off to a flyer. Isaac O scored an outstanding goal finishing from distance with a curling shot into the top right corner of the St Bede’s goal. This was followed by an excellent team move with Dan B finding the net to restore a two goal advantage. St Bede’s right winger was causing problems for the whole MGS defence – he scored a fantastic goal nutmegging two MGS defenders and striking the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal. St Bede’s were now on the front foot and were not giving up easily. They scored another goal as their defender played an amazing ball in behind the MGS defence from which their key striker went through on goal squeezing his shot in at the near post to make it 4-4 with 5 minutes of the game remaining.

With both teams pushing for a winner, Isaac O bundled home after a goal moth scramble but St Bede’s were working their socks off as they tried to equalise. Will M raced off his line on a couple of occasions to clear the danger. The game was coming to an end and with St Bede’s pressing hard for an equaliser Ibrahim K came up trumps on the counter attack with a neat left footed finish to secure a very hard fought 6-4 win.
