Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U14A vs  Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
On: Saturday, 07 Sep 2019
Venue: at Home

As this was our first game of the season, we knew that we would be a bit rusty from not playing with each other for a couple months. We had to get used to how we played and try and get our fitness back up to full speed again.

We started the game very well keeping possession with Toby and Zack staying very composed on the ball and making the perfect pass. Roberto and Matt were dominating the wingers and not letting them pass easily. When we were on the attack we got caught in possession they made a quick break and their striker scoring a very good goal. Charlie couldn't have done anything with that perfect strike. After that, we kept our heads up and continued to have more of the ball.

We carried on trying to break midfield down with George working hard and exploit the counter, with a very calm Freddie S that made some very good passes into gaps for Willis to attack onto. Their second goal came round very quickly by us being caught sleeping and they finished it off with a very neat finish. The ref then blew the whistle for half time.

We came back out at half time with our heads up knowing that it was only 2-0 and we had dominated most patches of the game. At half time we made some substitutions that with fresh legs, make an impact. As we got into the second half, Allaster was making some very good passes and his decision making was on point. On the wings we had a large amount of space with Mo and Luca having a lot of time on the ball due to their fullbacks playing pretty much as centre backs. We tried to play it out there for Mo and Luca to try and beat their man and put crosses in which they did very well. As we dominated more and more we pushed up a lot higher and tried to work through their very tight defence. Mo was getting success with dribbling past people like they were not even there. Whilst we tried to score As we tried to score we never really tested the keeper due to long range shooting efforts more than clear chances. We have work to do on our shooting! Pushing up the pitch opened gaps and Altrincham scored a very good goal from out side of the box. After they scored we carried on trying but nothing was really created.

Overall we felt that we dominated the game and should of taken our chances better and maybe tightening up the defence a little more. Well done to Mo for achieving man of the match. There was also good performance from Freddie Savage who I also thought had a very good game.
