Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School 2nd XI vs  Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
On: Saturday, 07 Sep 2019
Venue: at Home

MGS started strong dominating the possession which allowed the new second team to get comfortable in the game. The MGS attack had multiple attempts at goal however were yet to hit the mark until a strong finish by George Howling put MGS 1-0 ahead. Altrincham were dangerous on the counter due to having fast paced wingers however the discipline of our centre backs James and Jake allowed us to deal with the threats. After a few back and forth efforts from both teams , MGS had another breakthrough when a long range shot from Max Howard was fumbled by the keeper allowing George Howling to calmly finish the rebound. Towards the end of the first half Altrincham hit the bar but that was the highlight of their half. Tired legs started to show in the second half when Alty were able to get a goal from the breakdown of a corner from a good volley. We responded quickly when good build up play lead to Joe Okeregha calmly slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 3-1. However as time went on our discipline worsened as we conceived a penalty allowing Alty to make it 3-2. Altrincham continued to apply pressure as they were hungry to equalise. Keeper Will Fitchew tried his best to keep the shots out with one fantastic diving save to push the ball onto the bar. However in the last minute a stray cross from their winger made its way into the back post ending the game 3-3. It was disappointing to lose the lead however we played good football especially only with 12 men. Tyreece played with passion in centre mid allowing him to earn the man of the match.
