Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U13A vs  Manchester Schools' - Team Tournament
On: Wednesday, 23 Jan 2019
Venue: Away

At Our Lady’s RC High School, MGS managed to win the Manchester Schools team table tennis Under 13s tournament (With the whole team being under 12). With Jeremy seeded 1st, Jonny seeded 2nd, and Alex and Toby both third and fourth, we all won all our doubles and singles games against William Hulme and Abraham Moss. This left us with a last tricky opponent in Parrswood High School, which would decide the school that would go through to the next round. All of us managed to beat our singles opponent, apart from Alex, who lost in a closely fought 11-9 loss. This meant that we one had to win one of our doubles games. Both were exciting and could have gone either way, but both matches ere tightly won, especially the seed three and four doubles game. This saw us set up a semi-final match against William Hulme’s stronger team, as they had fielded to teams. Although they were stronger than the first team that we played in the group stage, we brushed them aside in similar fashion we did with the first William Hulme team. The final was predictable, after Parrswood went out in the group stage. We played St David’s. This match unfortunately saw Jeremy being beaten by their 1st Seed. Luckily the rest of the team made up for him with Jonny, Toby and Alex all winning their singles games. This put us in a similar situation as before against Parrswood. Luckily, this wasn’t as dramatic and we managed to move them aside to win the tournament.

Overall, everyone played at the top of their game, and it saw us qualify to represent Manchester in a further tournament sometime in March, and thanks to Mr Wilson for coaching us when we were faltering.
