Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U14B vs  Bolton School Boys Division
On: Saturday, 18 Sep 2021
Venue: at Home

On a warm and sunny Saturday morning, school football resumed for the MGS Year 9 B team as the boys welcomed Bolton School Boys in a 7 aside fixture. The game began in rapid fashion, with Bolton having the majority of possession in the first 10 minutes. The MGS defence, consisting of Tzabari and Wormald, brilliantly thwarted the incoming attacks while Twiggs in goal proved a safe pair of hands, with the visitors having a number of shots on target.

With 20 minutes on the clock, the MGS midfield started to get a foothold in the game, with Cooper and Swift showing composure on the ball. Forsey and Matthews looked dangerous on the break, making a number of threatening runs in behind the visiting defence. AT half-time, still goalless, but plenty of positives.

At the interval, MGS made a number of changes, with Goodall and Lau coming on, both having a very positive impact on the game. MGS were really starting to exert their dominance, coming close to scoring on a number of occasions. This relentless pressure eventually translated to a goal, as Chohan’s mazy run into the box was followed by a shot on target, which was well saved by the Bolton goalkeeper, only for the rebound to be pounced upon by Matthews. 1-0 to the hosts – a well-deserved lead with 10 minutes left in the game.

The visitors equalised in stoppage time, after a hopeful long ball bounced fortunately for one of the Bolton attackers to tap in – a goal that came very much against the run of play. Full-time: 1-1.

Overall, a good run out for the boys with some excellent performances on display. Wormald was imperious in defence, while Cooper ran much of the game in midfield. Man of the match however was Tzabari, who displayed exceptional composure throughout.
