Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U14A vs  Bolton School Boys Division
On: Saturday, 18 Sep 2021
Venue: at Home

The U14A's took on Bolton school looking to bounce back from a midweek defeat and from the first whistle looked energised. The midfield three of Oomman, Kunjoor and Woosey set about trying to control the game against a taller and athletic trio from Bolton. They stood up to the physical challenge and after 12 minutes broke the lines to get Woosey space to attack the back four. When they backed off him, he smashed the ball over the Bolton keeper from 25 yards getting incredible swerve and dip to bring the ball down into the top corner.

The rest of the first half was tight with only really shots from distance. Shirman and Woosey both shot wide while Goldman had a decent effort saved for MGS but Baythorpe was also had to be on hand to save shots from Bolton's number 6 and 8 from centre midfield and the number 11 who was on the left wing twice. Shirman was causing issues when Bolton played out from the back laying traps which the right back fell into on a couple of occasions.

That match up would prove decisive one minute into the second half when Shirman went on the outside, then inside, before finally beating his man on the outside before squaring for Clarke. This caused Bolton to alter their tactics and sacrifice one of their impressive midfield trio. MGS put the game to bed 15 minutes later when Woosey escaped the opposition midfield to nudge the ball onto Goldman and his shot from the edge of the area took a big deflection of the Bolton number four and past the keeper.

Throughout the game the voices of Woosey, Baythorpe and McCord were a near constant presence, organising and encouraging their team mates, which helped limit major chances for Bolton but there was still a couple of close moments. The Bolton number 4's misfortune continued when he bundled the ball home from close range but was in an offside position and the centre forward thought he was through on goal but McCord got across with a fantastic covering challenge with 3 minutes remaining.
