Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U18A vs  Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby
On: Saturday, 18 Sep 2021
Venue: at Home

Mgs welcomed Merchant Taylor’s to Manchester to play the first competitive match for 18 months. Tom Taylor scored the first try of the game crashing over from 5m after some good work from the forwards. Henry McGuire also crossed after the backs had linked well down the short side but were just held up short of the line. Frank Hudson scored the pick of the first half tries, receiving the ball 40m out after a good break from Adam Pennington he had a 1 on 1 with the fullback, some deft footwork and a real turn of pace saw him show a clean pair of heels round the FB and dot down under the posts.

The second half started well with Ed Howell showing his pace and footballing skills to follow up a clearance kick and win the race to the line to give MGS a 24-0 lead.

Merchants came back into the game and scored a try of their own, but some resolute defence on our own try line kept the visitors at bay for long periods. A final try near the end for Harry Maxwell, after excellent work from Pennington and Howell again, sealed a really good win.

The attitude shown by all the boys was fantastic and it was great to see so many make debuts for the 1st team. A really encouraging start the boys should be very proud of.

Man of the Match: Sahil Sharma, Rohan Ousta and Adam Pennington.
