Match Report
The Manchester Grammar School Boys-U18A vs  Oldham Hulme Grammar Schools
On: Saturday, 08 Dec 2018
Venue: Away

A wet but wonderful start to the weekend for the first XI. The owls dominated possession from the start on a boggy pitch, with Archer earning a trademark pen quickly. Only one man was going to take the pen and take it he did. Shenton gets his first with a finessed shot into the bottom corner. Moments later was déjá vu for the fans with Archer earning another pen. Shenton steps up an blasts it into the top corner. Unfortunately it was hit so hard that some of the net had to be replaced which caused a significant delay in the game. After a Messi like run from Shenton leaving Oldham defenders smelling the wet mud, Callum tapped in a 3rd. The owls were down to 10 men temporarily after the following kick off as Archer went off with an injury to the face, and were quickly punished with a goal.

HT 1-3 Owls

The boys came out for the second half after some words of wisdom from the coaches. With in the first 5 minutes, an Oldham CB blatantly hand-balled the ball in penalty area giving Shenton the chance to complete his hat-trick of penalties. Shenton stepped up......... and scored. The crowd chanted “We love you Shenton we do, We love you Shenton we do, We love you Shenton we do, oh Shenton we love you.” Shenton replied with a humble wave to the crowd. The game continued in similar fashion, MGS dominating the game, and Ben Chapman continued his scoring run for the first XI with a cool finish in the area. Unsurprisingly Shenton made it 6-2 and 4 for him, with a stunning volley after a Bundred cross. Corbett and Wilson had a chat and decided he would put the Oldham defenders out of their misery and brought Shenton off. The crowd gave Shenton a warm reception as he left the pitch, “he scores when he wants, he scores when he wants, oh Joe Shenton, he scores when he wants”. Archer came into replace him and after some nice play from a corner, created an opening for Meir who confidently headed it in. 7-2 for the Owls it finished.
